Terry Taylor, the Senior Director of Grants in Gifts at United Way of Brevard County gave Dreamscape some insight on the behind the scenes of this successful Community Redistribution Partnership.
What it’s all about
We had the pleasure of learning about United Way of Brevard and everything their wonderful organization has to offer. Located in Rockledge Florida, they have been helping their community over the last 55 years! Their mission is simply to care for their community and provide whatever they can for those in need. The organization specializes in a number of different things such as, education, financial stability, and health. They even help out with disaster recoveries including fires, flooding and even hurricanes! They believe that instead of focusing on a single issue they want to help tackle problems facing their community as a whole.
It may seem challenging for one organization to face all of this alone, but they have an amazing support system of partners behind them! Aside from their own work in the community, they also help other organizations achieve their goals. By hosting fundraisers for the benefit of another nonprofit, they are able to make more resources available to that organization. Which allows that organization to provide even more to the people in they serve. The best part is they have a very broad demographic of people and families they help. From elderly and disabled, to children and low income families, this organization will be there for you! On their website, United Way even provides numerous success stories of the people they have helped and impacted. These stories include single mothers who wanted a better childhood for their kids. They were able to provide that and more to help these families achieve not only success, but a great life as well. They also have numerous programs for people to attend, including their feed and read program. The goal is to provide nutrition, mentoring, and books to low income children while they’re off of school during the summer.
What they need
United Way of Brevard County can always use donations of course. We asked Terry if there are specific items they’re in need of most. She responded with various hygiene items. Such as toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant and other items of the sort. They are also always taking new volunteers to help with their many programs. If you’re a family who is struggling or someone who is disabled and needs a helping hand please go to the contact page on their website and they will be happy to help! If you’re someone who simply wants to donate or volunteer you can fill out and submit your information to their volunteer and giving page.
