In times of such uncertainty and worry, it is important to remember we are all in this together! During this worldwide pandemic, many countries are coming to the aid of those in need, despite having issues of their own at home. Whether it be sending equipment, medicine, tests, etc., our world leaders know we are stronger together than apart! Sharing that spirit, on Sunday April 26th, ScrimToWin hosted the Gamers vs Covid-19 Fortnite Tournament and fundraiser on Twitch.tv! Their goal was to bring people together in a safe and enjoyable way, to raise funds for Direct Relief’s Covid-19 fund. But the event turned out to be much more than just a fundraiser! So much so, that Co-Founder, Timothy Tello, had only this to say, “I am just floored at the overall response of the gaming community. Everyone has been so receptive to helping in these hard times. It’s amazing to see community helping community.” With that in mind, it is clear, charity events like this go well beyond simply raising money. They send a clear message to those they support, that they are never alone and never forgotten!
Working Together for Everyone’s Benefit
Acting as the host and moderating the Tournament was ScrimToWin. A company that provides players with the ability to battle each other and win prizes in a competitive eSports environment. Taking it upon themselves, they sponsor a number of prizes, so players can win items like gift cards, PC/Gaming Accessories, and a whole lot more! But they were not alone in this venture…
Getting involved and collaborating with them were a number of technology/gaming companies including Razer, Logitech G, Streamlabs, and Pledgeling. They also made sure to include a special thanks to Fantasy eSports, Michelle Phan, and Tokyo Time for the parts they played in making the event happen!
Between the companies and the gamers, it was an inspiring display of selflessness and true care for others. In fact, when asked his favorite part Matthew Bianchi (ScrimToWin’s Sr. Marketing Manager) summed it up beautifully:
“Personally, I can’t say I really have a specific favorite moment, but seeing and experiencing the excitement from the community was the most outstanding thing to me. For one day, the creators, the players, and the brands all came together for this a collective cause, and bridging all these communities together was a special experience I’ll never forget.”
The event was more than just a chance to win prizes and gain exposure. Instead, it was an opportunity to give back and support those risking their lives for complete strangers. All proceeds from the fundraiser have been donated to Direct Relief to support the hospitals and medical workers around the globe struggling to acquire the resources they need to combat the COVID-19 virus.
Gamers vs Covid-19: Fortnite Tournament and Fundraiser Turnout
ScrimToWin said it best, “GamersVSCovid is an open call for all gamers to aid in the fight against COVID-19.” And aid they did! Together, they raised an incredible $1,020 in an intense 12-hour Fortnite Tournament. Players from all over battled for the top spot and to be one of the top 5 that moved on to the finals. The tournament style was as follows, Qualifiers: Fortnite Arena Solos (2 Matches Per Hour) with Winners selected by placement and the Top 5 Players move on to Finals at the end of the day. For the Finals, they stepped it up a notch making the matches best of 3! Packed with close battles, the tournament was heated from the start! Even Co-Founder, Michael Weiksner, had this to say, “There were so many great moments to choose from but among my favorite has to be watching Reverse2k get bodied by one of the community members. Another has to be the ending of Game 1 of the Finals, it was so exciting!” Now don’t be upset if you missed all the excitement, because both the Qualifiers and Finals were recorded and can be found on ScrimToWin’s Twitch Channel!
Seeing the effort and determination of all those involved was truly inspiring and heartwarming, especially to our organization. As a nonprofit, we know it is because of dedicated and passionate people/companies like these, that make what we do possible! Though we ourselves were not involved, we wanted to take the time to showcase the hard work ScrimToWin and the rest of their partners put into making this event a reality! It is safe to say, everyone, especially all those who will benefit directly from their support, are truly grateful!
